In Utah by mid October, the trees at the higher elevations have already shown their color and dropped their leaves. But Utah gold still snakes through the valleys along the creeks and rivers. Taken from Hwy 12, Dixie National Forest.
The Hwy 12 Scenic Byway begins at Hwy 89 just West of Bryce National Park and travels through Red Canyon, Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument, the Dixie National Forest and ends near Capital Reef National Park. While you could drive Hwy 12 in one day it is recommended to take several days staying at the small towns along the road and detouring off the main highway to see the amazing scenery. Check out the Scenic Byway 12 website for more information.
